About Shawnee Heights Fire District:
The Shawnee Heights Fire District was formed in 2005 when Monmouth Township
residents overwhelmingly voted to join the Topeka-Tecumseh Fire District,
located southeast of the city of Topeka.
The new district provides fire suppression
and first responder medical services to the citizens of Topeka, Tecumseh and
Monmouth Townships. Some of the communities served include Tecumseh, Shawnee
Heights and Berryton. These services are also provided under contract to
residents of Williamsport Township in south Shawnee County, including the
communities of Pauline, Montara and Wakarusa.
The Shawnee Heights Fire District is a
combination department - that means both full-time career firefighters and
paid-on-call firefighters work side-by-side. For the protection of our
citizens, both of our fire stations are manned 24 hours each day. The
District is in the midst of planning future stations to provide better
service to the citizens of Monmouth Township.
Paramedic level ambulance service for the
district is provided by American Medical Response based in Topeka.
